Part of my favorite things about living in Los Angeles is that we have so many cultures intertwined. I love the diversity of the people of all sorts of background, the culture, the food…the FOOD. All joking aside though, I really have come to appreciate the melting pot Los Angeles is. I have been fortunate enough to document so many multicultural weddings, and this was just one of the many!
Ankit first reached out to me to photograph their proposal – at the location where they had first met, UCLA. We had ironed out details to the proposal while they came to LA (they live in NorCal currently) and did a surprise proposal while they walked the campus as a “nostalgia walk”. Then few months later they had both reached out to me to document their engagement photos, and part 1 of their wedding celebrations in Los Angeles!
Joanna joked with me that the LA wedding would be “her” cultural wedding, and their part 2 wedding in India would be “his”. And while it sort of was for this multicultural wedding, it was Chinese wedding tea ceremony with Indian flairs and notes. I loved that both of the couple were honoring their cultural backgrounds by wearing both of their culture’s wedding attire, mixing music during reception, welcoming Lion Dancers as their grand entrance, etc. It was such a beautiful multicultural wedding, and I was reminded how lucky I am in LA!
